Alison Hsiao
Alison grew up in Portland, Oregon, and has always enjoyed reading and writing. Longing to delve into other worlds and understand new perspectives, she spent much of her life immersed in literature. Pursuing their passion, they received their BA from Willamette University in English and Music and their MA from Tufts University in English. They believe in the power of literature to help imagine and inspire more just worlds where peoples can live outside of oppressive systems. Alison is currently a Ph.D. candidate in English at UC Davis, and her research interests encompass critical race theory, relational race approaches, women of color feminism, and queer of color critique. Within their research, they think through missing persons as a relational analytic of understanding shared experiences of state violence across racialized communities. She strives to bridge her teaching with her research interests as she grounds her pedagogy in decolonial and feminist methodologies by centering her students’ strengths and building from their embodied knowledges.?
Elizabeth Keedy de Obando
Elizabeth Keedy de Obando has been teaching English and Literature since graduating from Kenyon in 1996. She also earned two masters’ degrees: an MA in literature from FIU and an MAR in religion and the visual arts from Yale University. She has taught literature and writing classes to a variety of different levels, from middle school to undergraduate. Elizabeth has worked for Keiser University on three different campuses (Nicaragua, Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale) and is now with the E-Campus. She recently returned to the United States from Nicaragua where she started and ran Granada International School. At present, Elizabeth resides in North Carolina with her husband and three young children where she is a History and English teacher at Woodlawn School. And when time permits, she enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling.
Andrew Kirschner
Dr. Kirschner has worked as an educator, grant writer, and administrator in public and private colleges, correctional facilities, and middle and high schools in South Florida since 1993. He has served as a professor, editor-in-chief, and director of the Graduate School Writing Studio at Keiser University since 2009. State certified in English, he has taught Language Arts, Reading, English, ESL/ELL, and International Relations in addition to a variety of masters and Ph.D. courses in Educational Leadership. A former state reading coach for the Florida Department of Education, he worked in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach public schools. He received the Florida Regional Teacher of the Year award and the Broward County Boys and Girls Clubs Volunteer of the Year award. Dr. Kirschner earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and a doctorate in Administrator Leadership. Originally from New York, he has also lived in Washington, D.C. He enjoys volunteering for causes that benefit animals and children, spending time with family, and reading American history books. His favorite extracurricular activity is volunteering as coach of the Broward County Special Olympics tennis team.
Michael Record
Michael Record earned a BA in English from Florida Atlantic University, an MS in English Education from Nova Southeastern University, and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Keiser University. Dr. Record is a National Board Certified Teacher with experience teaching at the K-12 and college levels. He currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor of the Writing Program for Keiser University as well as Adjunct Professor of Education. He lives in Ft. Lauderdale and enjoys camping, canoeing, snorkeling, scuba diving, traveling, and photography.
Vicki Strunk
After earning a BA in Anthropology, Vicki Strunk started her career in 1978 teaching English in the Peace Corps in Central Africa.? She then completed an MA in Applied Linguistics/TEFL and taught English at King Faisal University in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. She then taught English at Colorado Technical University and completed a PhD in Business Administration with a concentration in Education Management. She directed the design of academic programs and courses at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels and has overseen accreditation visits as a dean and president at several college and university branch campuses. She has served on more than 20 dissertation committees, chairing five. Vicki derives a great deal of satisfaction from helping Keiser University graduate students with their academic writing and teaching in her local school district. She spends her free time doing genealogical research and spoiling her grandkids.
William Strunk
Bill Strunk has been teaching English since joining the Peace Corps in 1972. Bill has two masters’ degrees: M.A. English/Applied Linguistics and M.S. Business (IT concentration). He has instructed all levels of English from beginning ESL students to doctoral candidates writing their dissertations. Bill has taught in three countries in addition to the United States (Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Canada) and in four U.S. states (Colorado, Texas, South Dakota, Florida). He was also a volunteer English tutor for Indo-Chinese refugees in Denver. He currently resides in Castle Rock, Colorado.?He plays guitar and enjoys hiking, camping, and rafting in Colorado’s mountains.
Kyle Tilley
Kyle Tilley has been in the secondary classroom for most of her career, and she’s taught English to high school students?for over a decade.? She earned her undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature from Washington and Lee University, where she developed a particular love of Modernist?literature; she continued her studies in English and literature with an MA from Middlebury College.? Most recently, Kyle has taught AP English Literature and AP English Language classes while also serving as Dean of Academics at a private school in North Carolina, where she oversaw curriculum development and integration, headed the English department, and?helped to develop and implement an interdepartmental humanities program.? Kyle joined the Graduate Online Writing Studio at Keiser University in 2018, where she particularly enjoys sharing her love of language and communication with graduate students and helping them to feel more confident in their writing.? She is a Bostonian?transplant to North Carolina, where she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and cooking.
